Whole30 and Paleo Hoisin Sesame Wings

It’s game day (Go Rockets!) AKA lots of wing action going on over here, like these Paleo Hoisin Sesame Wings. These babies are by far the easiest wings I’ve ever made and hands down the tastiest too. 


Hoisin Sesame Wings

Serves: 2-4

Cooking Time: 50 minutes

Ingredients: 

  • 3 lbs chicken wings 

For the hoisin sesame sauce: 

  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil 

  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes 

  • 2 cloves garlic 

  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger 

  • 1 tsp coriander 

  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 

  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos 

  • 3 tablespoons orange juice 

  • 1 tablespoon cashew butter 

  • 1 tablespoon honey (omit if on whole30)

  • 2 tsp rice vinegar 

  • 1 tsp gochujang seasoning

  • 1/4 tsp Chinese Five Spice 

  • 3 green onions, white bulb thinly sliced (save the green part for garnish) 

  • 1/4 tsp arrowroot starch mixed with 1 tsp water

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and a wire rack. Spray with avocado oil. 

  2. Combine all the ingredients for the sauce in a saucepan, except for the arrowroot starch. Whisk to combine. Heat the sauce over medium high heat and simmer for 4 minutes. Add the arrowroot starch at minute 2, whisking well to combine. Remove from heat. 

  3. Place the chicken wings on the wire rack in an even layer and brush the sauce over the chicken. Bake the wings for 40 minutes, basting the wings with the sauce every 15 minutes. To cook the wings more evenly, be sure to turn them over at the 30 minute mark using tongs.

  4. Top with red pepper flakes, green onions, and sesame seeds.
